A More Accessible Aurora Avenue

As the 2024 Washington State Legislative session came to an end last week, we are pleased that a two-year-long press by our older disabled adult community has made their voices heard in budget deliberations.

The Supplemental Transportation Budget includes $4 million to make improvements along Seattle’s Aurora Ave. N., which we believe would be a start in creating safer and more accessible options for people navigating the Aurora Corridor.

Disability Empowerment Center staff engaged with state legislative staffers, the Seattle Department of Transportation, local neighborhood improvement organizations and other statewide disability rights organizations to encourage allocating this funding.

The City of Seattle is already studying options to improve Aurora Ave.

You can share your input by taking the city of Seattle’s survey.
